Waste in action

Pebsham waste trail

Pebsham, one of the largest landfill sites in East Sussex, is coming to a close. The site has been used for many, many years to dispose of household and commercial waste, in fact, in the last 15 years over 3 million tonnes of waste has been disposed of at the site.

Through Interreg IVA, ESCC has been working in partnership with Smédar and sharing ideas. Both organisations have created waste trails to explain the need to reduce, reuse and recycle and compost waste rather than disposing of it in a landfill site.

The trail at Pebsham has been designed with 6 main panels that give information on what we can do to minimise rubbish going to landfill through reducing, reusing and recycling. In addition to the panels, there is an interactive element where the users are given a PDA (hand held computer) which interacts with the panels located on site and has a commentary and animations as well as some games to play. The idea behind the games is for visitors to try and find parts of BigBot who has exploded due to the amount of waste he has had to process. Completion of each game will rewards the visitor with a body part until BigBot is completed.

The trail opened at the beginning of October 2010. The games are available on this website in both French and English.
